When it comes to the natural aging process, one of the many concerns that patients have has to do with the condition of their skin. Free radicals, environmental harm and certain lifestyle habits can take a toll on our skin, leaving us with poor elasticity, a rough skin texture, and age spots that make us appear older than we really are. Receiving cosmetic treatments like laser therapy and microdermabrasion are effective ways to treat aging skin, but sometimes treatment is as simple as increasing the vitamins and antioxidants that are able to protect it from harm. At Laserderm Dermatology & Cosmetic Laser Surgery, we provide a number of antioxidant serums and facials to improve the health of your skin.
The Benefit of Using Antioxidants
We often hear the term “antioxidants” thrown around quite a bit, but the true definition of what they are as well as the real benefits they provide are hardly known. Antioxidants work specifically to protect your cells from oxidants or free radicals that are present in the environment and in your body. Although free radicals can benefit the body, when too many are present, they can damage skin cells and produce many of the effects associated with aging.
Antioxidants are found in plenty of foods such as fruits and vegetables, chocolate and even wine. They are also present in vitamins A, C and E. However, many people with advanced aging are not consuming enough antioxidants naturally to keep their skin looking youthful. By introducing topical antioxidant creams and serums, you can increase the amount of antioxidants in your skin and begin to reverse many signs of aging.
Antioxidants can:
- Promote firmer skin and a tighter elasticity
- Lower inflammation in the skin that can cause poor skin texture
- Lessen the appearance of acne scars
- Create a clearer skin complexion and alleviate age spots
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles in the skin
- Cleanse clogged pores that cause acne
Antioxidant Treatment at Laserderm Dermatology & Cosmetic Laser Surgery
When it comes to slowing the natural aging process, there are a variety of procedures to choose from, and our physicians may recommend that you include antioxidant skin care in addition to other cosmetic treatments you receive. Two of the most effective antioxidant products that we carry are our High Potency C Serum and Anti-Aging Eye Care, which each have vitamin C as one of the main ingredients. Other products that we carry that are rich in antioxidants are the Profoundly Effective Retinol, the Hydrating Serum and our glycolic pads.
We also offer a number of different facials, including:
Vitamin C facials
The vitamin C facial works to administer nutrients and minerals directly into the skin. The facial also tightens and lifts the skin for better makeup application. After the facial is completed, a peel off mask is applied.
Rosacea facials
The rosacea facial is ideal for those who experience uncontrollable flushing in the skin and has rose oil, licorice root and chamomile extract as the main ingredients. The facial has also shown to be effective in alleviating spider veins on the face. Like the vitamin C facial, the rosacea facial also includes a hard lift mask that is applied once the facial is complete.
Glycolic facials
The glycolic facial is our regular facial at Laserderm Dermatology & Cosmetic Laser Surgery. It consists of glycol products that are designed to penetrate deeper within the skin and provide additional exfoliation. For patients with sun damage, melasma and other issues with pigmentation, the glycolic peel is an effective solution. We also perform the glycolic facial at various strengths depending on your skin type as well as the severity of your skin condition.
Determining whether you should receive antioxidants as an addition to your skin care regimen can be discussed during a consultation between you and a physician at Laserderm Dermatology & Cosmetic Laser Surgery. We can perform a skin evaluation and recommend treatment options that can help alleviate your skin concerns. Antioxidant skin treatment is a gentle way to begin enhancing your skin and can be used in addition to any of the other cosmetic treatments that we offer.
