Moles
Moles are growths on the skin that are usually brown or black. They can
appear anywhere on the skin. Moles form when cells in the skin grow in a
group instead of spreading through the skin. The color of moles may darken
with sun exposure. It is important to examine your skin and to know the
changes that have occurred in moles on your body. If you see changes in an
existing mole, if you have a new mole, or if you want a mole to be removed
for cosmetic reasons, please call to make an appointment.
Most moles are not dangerous. It is important to come in for Skin Cancer Screening in order to assure that the moles that you do have are not cancerous.

Keloids
A keloid is a type of scar that results in an overgrowth of tissue at the
site of a skin injury. Keloids are unlike common scars in size and shape.
Keloids grow to a larger size than the original wound. They are usually
smooth, firm, raised, fibrous growths on the skin.
Treating keloids is much more effective if done soon after the keloid
appears. If you notice a keloid contact our office for treatment.

Nail Fungus
Nail fungus is a fungal infection of the fingernails and toenails. These
fungal infections usually cause discoloration, thickening and often
softening of the nails. These infections may be hard to get rid of, as our
nails are protective barriers. It is hard to get through them to treat the
infections. Nail Fungus can be contagious and need to be treated. Please
call us at 631.979.0909 to make an appointment if you see signs of fungus.
Although nail fungus is difficult to get rid of, our team is consistent
and diligent in their treatment process.

on the skin. There are several different types of warts. Warts can spread
to other people as well as to other sites on your body. Make the decision
to come in to be evaluated if you suspect that you have a wart. It is
important to treat warts as it may help them from spreading to other places
on your body.

Skin Cancer
Skin cancer refers to the abnormal, uncontrolled growth of skin cells. The most common skin cancers are basal cell carcinoma (affecting cells in the lowest layer of the epidermis) and squamous cell carcinoma (affecting cells in the middle layer of the epidermis). A rarer but more dangerous skin cancer is melanoma, the leading cause of death from skin disease. Risk factors for developing skin cancer include pale skin, family history of melanoma, being over 40 years old, and regular sun exposure. Skin cancers vary in shape, color, size and texture, so any new, changed or otherwise suspicious growths or rashes should be examined immediately by a physician. Early intervention is essential to preventing the cancer from spreading.

Mohs Micrographic Surgery
Mohs surgery involves the systematic removal and analysis of thin layers of skin at the tumor site until the last traces of cancerous tissue have been eliminated. The immediate and complete microscopic examination and evaluation of excised tissue is what differentiates Mohs surgery from other cancer removal procedures. Only the cancerous tissue is removed, minimizing both post-operative wound size and the chance of regrowth.
Mohs surgery is most commonly used for basal and squamous cell carcinomas, although it can be recommended for the eradication of other cancers such as melanoma. High precision makes Mohs surgery ideal for the elimination of cancers in cosmetically important areas such as the face (nose, eyelids, lips, hairline), hands, feet and genitals.
