We also specialize in hair conditions such as dandruff, folliculitis, alopecia and hirsutism as well as conditions of the foot that include warts, athlete’s foot and other fungal infections. Proper care for your skin is key to your overall well being, which is why we encourage our patients to schedule an appointment with us at the first sign of any issue.

Diagnosing Your Condition

The diagnosis of any skin condition can involve many different avenues depending on how recognizable it is. Oftentimes, skin disorders have similar side effects, and it’s important to rule out certain conditions in order to provide the most effective treatment.

To ensure a proper diagnosis, our physicians will start by examining your skin and assessing your medical history. Many skin conditions show themselves in the form of a rash along with other physical symptoms like itching and burning. By studying the pattern of the rash as well as considering your symptoms, we are able to form a diagnosis. We take whatever additional steps to make sure our diagnosis is complete and accurate.

We may perform a skin scraping, which involves scraping off a layer of the rash and examining it under a microscope in order to identify certain bacteria. We may also use that skin scraping to create a culture, which will allow the bacteria to grow and help our physicians better identify the condition. Other measures that we may take are skin biopsies, which are used to examine the shape of a particular lesion as well as patch tests that help us determine any allergies. The diagnostic test that is used will depend on the appearance of the condition at hand.

Your initial consultation is usually dictated by your most pressing concerns. If we are able to address your condition during the first visit, we will do so. Otherwise, we may schedule a follow up appointment to further evaluate the issue. We encourage all patients to come in for a general skin check annually. Our physicians perform a full-body exam to ensure that you are in good health.

Choosing Your Treatment Option

Based on your diagnosis, our physicians will recommend treatment methods they believe will be most effective for your condition and lifestyle. Treatments that we offer include medicated creams, lotions or ointments, specialized shampoos, oral medications, laser therapy or other procedures that are considered cosmetic. We work with each of our patients to choose a treatment plan that suits their time frame, budget and wellness goals, and we will review proper applications and care instructions for their use in and out of our office.

Additionally, each of our physicians is invested in educating our patients about preventative solutions that may help diminish their symptoms. Flare ups can occur when wearing certain clothing, using particular products or engaging in specific habits that irritate the skin. We will discuss your lifestyle choices and suggest ways for you to make improvements to your everyday routine to better assist your skin condition.
