Injectables

The natural aging process has an unavoidable tendency of producing fine lines and wrinkles on your skin, often making you look older than you feel. Many surgical procedures will eliminate the appearance of wrinkles and creases, such as a facelift or browlift, but often times people do not want to undergo an invasive cosmetic procedure or may feel their concerns do not yet warrant surgery. Fortunately, alternative rejuvenation treatments such as cosmetic injectables and dermal fillers provide our Smithtown patients with a minimally-invasive way to enhance the natural features of their face and achieve a more youthful appearance without incisions or downtime. At Laserderm Dermatology & Cosmetic Laser Surgery, we offer a wide variety of injectable treatments that can help you regain the younger-looking skin you desire.

What are Injectables?

Injectable fillers are liquid or gel-like solutions that are injected into the areas of the face that have succumb to the aging process. When it comes to fine lines, wrinkles and sunken features on the face, one or more injectables can be used to eliminate these imperfections and improve the overall appearance of the skin. The results are firmer, tighter and smoother skin that takes years off of your face almost instantaneously. Injectables are often used to treat:

  • Age-related volume loss
  • Facial creases and wrinkles
  • Nasolabial folds or laugh lines
  • Marionette lines
  • Thin or wrinkled lips

The Smithtown patients who come to Laserderm Dermatology & Cosmetic Laser Surgery are looking to replenish the youthful fullness of their faces that have otherwise been depleted by the aging process. Injectables will restore the features of your face that help you to look younger and feel great about the way you look at any age.

The Difference Between Dermal Fillers and Injectable Neurotoxins

Both dermal fillers and injectable neurotoxins such as Botox are proven to reduce wrinkles and other age-inducing concerns on the face. However, neurotoxin injectables specifically target facial muscle movements that contribute to lines, while fillers “fill in” wrinkles and soft tissues. Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are administered directly into facial muscles known to produce folds and wrinkles from regular facial expressions.

Neurotoxin injectables work to block the nerves in the muscles to prevent them from contracting and creating expression lines. Frown lines, for example, are a type of wrinkle that may require Botox, since these lines are a direct result of the muscle movements that occur in the forehead when you frown. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are not injected into the muscles, but rather are administered into soft tissues to fill the wrinkles in from within, thereby softening the skin. Both of these types of injectables are entirely safe and effective, and the use of one over the other will depend on the kind of wrinkles present on your face.

At Laserderm Dermatology & Cosmetic Laser Surgery, we offer the following injectables:

Botox

When Botox is used for cosmetic purposes it serves to relax muscles in the face that are causing wrinkles to appear. Over time, and with continued use, facial muscles can begin to overexert themselves and create seemingly permanent lines on the face. However, when an injectable treatment like Botox is administered into muscle, it can relax and reduce the intensity of the lines created.

Dysport

Dysport is a muscle relaxant similar to Botox that is able to reduce the exertion of the muscles causing wrinkles. When injected directly into the muscles, lines and exaggerated features can relax so that the face looks younger and more alert.

Xeomin

Similar to both Botox and Dysport, Xeomin reduces muscle activity that is responsible for facial lines as well as blepharospasm (excessive blinking). Xeomin is highly effective at treating forehead lines, but can also be used to treat other wrinkles on the face that result from muscle activity.
